It is difficult to make differential diagnosis for dementia with depressive mood and depressive pseudodementia.  The latter has cognition deficits and memory
decline which if diagnosed can be treated. Low blood circulation and metabolism in the frontal lobe was found using SPECT and PET. With antidepressant
treatment depressive mood reduced and blood flow and metabolism in the frontal lobe recovered. see KOIKE, S. et al. (2008). A case of senile depression
diagnosed by N-isopropyl-P-[123I]-iodoamphetamine single photon emission computed tomography and 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission
tomography. Psychogeriatrics, 8(2), 101-103.
--Counseling and enjoyable activities are shown to improve mood and thus help recover cognitive deficits related to senile depression.

Daycare outcome and effectiveness of therapy is improved by improving, at the onset of admission, cordial communication, supportive attitude, and
individual plans of care. See Miyaji, S.
et al.  (2008). The relationship between patient characteristics and psychiatric day care outcomes in schizophrenic
patients.
Psychiatric and .. Neuroscience, 62(3), 292-300.

Stress and restraining activates hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis, corticotropin-releasing factor, causing oxidative stress of the cortical neurons and
reduction of matrix metalloproteinase-2 which increases b-Amyloid plaque, tau, and cortical atrophy seen in Alzheimer's disease; see Lee, K-W.
et al.
(2008). Behavioral stress accelerates plaque pathogenesis in the brain of Tg2576 mice via generation of metabolic oxidative stress. Journal of
Neurochemistry, 108(1), 165-175.
-- Non-isolated, may be unstructured or free from restraint can be healthier for Alzheimer's patients

Should 50+ year olds categorize themselves as members of the old group, they report more hearing deficit.  Claire, L. St. and He, Y. (2008). How Do I Know if

The more nurses identify with the nursing profession the more they perceived that flu vaccination was their duty to receive in order to protect the participants
and not necessarily themselves.   Falomir-Pichastor, J. M., Toscani, L. and Despointes, S. H. (2008). Determinants of Flu Vaccination among Nurses: The
Effects of Group Identification and Professional Responsibility.
Applied Psych, 58(1), 42-58.

Amygdala related emotional memory improves with age, as memory declines for negative stimuli. In elderly anterior amygdala is activated more and the
posterior less when negative stimuli are recalled. The decline in memory for negative stimuli is associated with reduced connection between amygdala and
the hippocampus but increased connection between amygdala and dorsolateral prefrontal areas associated with emotion regulation and emotional memory;
see Jacques, P.L. St., Dolcos, F. and Cabeza, R. (2008). Effects of Aging on Functional Connectivity of the Amygdala for Subsequent Memory of Negative
Pictures: A Network Analysis of Functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging Data.

The wellbeing in better in 60+ years old and older individuals who 12 months prior had been negative about themselves ("underestimate their future") as
compared to those who over estimated their future. Prior negative constructs may prepare individuals for the future reality of declines or losses in old age.

While social contact and cognitive - executive functioning, verbal fluency are predictive of social skills in schizophrenia and schizoaffective disorder, that is
not predictive in those with mood disorder. Blunted affect are predictive of social skills in both schizophrenia and those with mood disorder. Females with
mood disorder, but not schizophrenia, were better in social skills. Aging is related to poor social skills in both schizophrenia and mood disorder group. Female
elderly with mood disorder, and not schizophrenia, are better in social skills. Kim T. Muesera, Sarah I. Pratta, Stephen J. Bartelsa, Brent Foresterb, Rosemarie
Wolfea and Corinne Cather (2010, May). Neurocognition and social skill in older persons with schizophrenia and major mood disorders: An analysis of gender
and diagnosis effects. Journal of Neurolinguistics, 23(3), 297-317.

Aging can lead to loss of nyelination and remyelination of some of the nerve fibers of the fornix involving astrocytic and microgilia phagocytosis of the
myelin with 20% increase ib oligodendricytes. The decrease in Myelin affects the density of the nerve fibers resulting in cognitive impairment; as a function
of this decrease in the density, the cognitive impairment is related to the disconnection of thalamus, septal region and medial frontal cortex from the
hippocampus and reduction in conduction speed of the remylinated fibers in the fornix. Peters, A., Sethares, C. and Moss, M. B. (2010). How the primate
fornix is affected by age. The Journal of Comparative Neurology, 518(19), 3962-3980.
[Lalezarzadeh, K. (2010, August 4). Based on the findings of this ultrastructural study, one can think of therapeutic activities that could activate the structures
for rehabilitating the connections among the memory system (hippocampus), sensory relay station (thalamus), anger control (septal nuclei), pre-conscious -
mood regulation (prefrontal cortext) and added speed processing to compensate for remyelination losses.]
